Zico Pieri: Breaking Barriers with an Official World Record in Consecutive Everestings

Italian cyclist Zico Pieri has made history by setting an Official World Record for the most consecutive Everestings, an extraordinary achievement that pushes the boundaries of endurance cycling. Everesting, a grueling challenge in which participants repeatedly climb a hill until they reach an elevation gain equal to Mount Everest’s height (8,848 meters), is a test of physical and mental resilience. While completing just one Everesting is a monumental feat, Zico went far beyond, completing 10 consecutive Everestings over nearly 12 days. His accomplishment, certified as an official record, not only establishes him as a pioneer in endurance cycling but has also become the focus of a scientific study by the University of Urbino.

Zico’s journey began on June 28, 2022, at 1:01 AM on Monte Petrano in Cagli, Italy, and concluded on July 10, 2022, at 12:14 AM. Over 11 days, 23 hours, and 46 minutes, he completed 110 climbs on the Strada Provinciale SP54, a road known for its steep gradients. His total elevation gain reached an astonishing 89,650 meters, equivalent to climbing Mount Everest over 10 times. Zico cycled a distance of 2,252 kilometers during this period, burning an incredible 51,588 calories. On average, he spent about two and a half hours each day climbing, amounting to a total of 26 hours and 30 minutes of intense effort. This meticulously planned and executed feat is a testament to Zico’s unmatched endurance and determination.

Monte Petrano provided a fitting stage for this record-breaking attempt, challenging not only Zico’s physical limits but also his mental fortitude. The repetitive nature of the climb tested his ability to stay focused and maintain motivation through days of fatigue, pain, and psychological strain. Despite these obstacles, Zico persevered, demonstrating a level of resilience that is nothing short of extraordinary. His success also highlights the critical role of his support team, who monitored his progress, ensured his safety, and kept him fueled and motivated throughout the challenge.

The numbers behind Zico’s record tell a story of unparalleled endurance. Scaling almost 90,000 meters of elevation gain and cycling over 2,250 kilometers required an extraordinary combination of stamina, nutrition, and recovery. Consuming over 51,500 calories during the event, Zico relied on a carefully planned diet that provided the energy needed to sustain such intense physical activity while enabling rapid recovery for the next day’s climbs. Every aspect of his effort was meticulously calculated, from pacing to rest periods, ensuring that he could maintain his performance over nearly 12 consecutive days.

Zico’s accomplishment has also become a subject of scientific interest, with researchers at the University of Urbino studying the physiological and psychological dimensions of his performance. By examining his calorie consumption, muscle recovery, and mental resilience, the study offers valuable insights into the limits of human endurance and the strategies that can help athletes overcome them. This research not only adds to Zico’s legacy but also contributes to a broader understanding of extreme endurance sports.

This record is more than just a personal milestone for Zico Pieri; it’s an inspiration to the global cycling community. His achievement expands the boundaries of what is possible in endurance cycling and serves as a reminder that with determination, preparation, and resilience, even the loftiest goals can be achieved. Zico’s story resonates with athletes and enthusiasts alike, encouraging them to embrace challenges and push beyond their limits.

As a life and sport coach, Zico continues to inspire others to pursue their dreams, no matter how ambitious. His achievement in consecutive Everestings not only cements his status as a trailblazer in cycling but also underscores the importance of perseverance in the face of adversity. With this record, Zico Pieri has set a new benchmark in endurance sports, proving that the human spirit is capable of conquering even the most daunting summits.
